Avizandum wins BIALL award, 2015

The Scottish Law Librarians Group was happy to learn Law bookshop, Avizandum , was named BIALL’s Supplier Of The Year at the 2015 British and Irish Association of Law Librarians Conference last week.

Owner, Elizabeth Thompson and assistant manager, Lissie Attfield (both SLLG members) were invited to the conference in Brighton and the President’s Dinner to accept the award.

Elizabeth described the importance of the award as a major accolade for the law bookshop which is located in the heart of Edinburgh, near to many of Edinburgh’s legal institutions: “When you consider the size of the suppliers nominated and compare those to ourselves, we didn’t think it was possible to win.”

Avizandum employs just four staff and specialises in Scots law texts, but the BIALL Award Committee was highly impressed at the levels of customer satisfaction. In particular, BIALL praised Avizandum for its knowledge and personal service, giving them a clearly loyal customer base.

Elizabeth said she was delighted to accept the award: “It is great to be recognised UK and Ireland wide and in front of so many law information professionals and other vendors and suppliers. We have had so many messages of congratulations, it’s lovely.”

Lissie added: “We are back to work and on cloud nine right now! The award is pride of place in the shop where our customers can see it”
